Michael Hogg began a 30 year career in banking with Barclays, in the retail division. He progressed to treasury operations becoming a senior FX trader, and worked with Jeremy Farebrother, in several international investment banks, before moving to a role in the Middle East. He was part of a team hired to re-start the trading operations of a Kuwaiti bank, after the first Gulf war.
Moving back to London, he joined Societe Generale in 1997, where he managed their European currency FX trading books, through the transition to the Euro. He then ran a risk management desk for 6 years, before transferring to a client facing role with the banks Client Performance Unit.
Linking up once again with Jeremy Farebrother, he adds his extensive market experience and appreciation of risk management to Ambleside Consultants Ltd.
Jeremy Farebrother has over 20 years in the financial industry working in the treasury department for international banks that include Barclays Bank in both London and Tokyo. First National Bank Of Chicago and Commerzbank .
He then moved to be Group Finance and business manager for both Wholesale and retail oil and gas insurance in Houston Texas. He also has a number of years as a fund manager.
His all-round experience and numerous financial contacts helps in keeping up to date with fund mangers views and research.
Ken Smith has over 30 years experience in the shipping, commodity trading and financial services sectors, the last 16 as an expatriate, 13 of those as Managing Director
After commencing employment with the Canterbury Building Society in New Zealand he then gained experience in primary produce exporting before becoming the South Island manager of a shipping agency.
Accepting an approach from a Hong Kong based trading company he joined them in 1994 as Managing Director spending the next 8 years with them in Hong Kong and then Philippines trading primary produce into Asia, predominantly China
He joined Phoenix Investment Consulting Ltd in 2002 and then became Managing Director of Phoenix Consultants Ltd when that company was formed in 2005
During his time at Phoenix he oversaw the development from a staff of two to a staff of thirty at it’s height serving clients in 55 different countries around the world and being responsible for the management of USD100 million of clients assets at it’s peak
In June 2010 along with Jeremy Farebrother, also ex Phoenix, they founded Ambleside Consultants Ltd to concentrate on providing a closer hands on service to clients.
